10 Best Up And Coming Stocks To Invest In Right Now

The stock market is trying to find support after a significant sell-off since the end of 2013. That being said, earnings season has generated very selective winners and losers. Many great stocks have fallen from their peaks, and some Dow Jones Industrial Average stocks are actually challenging their 52-week lows.

24/7 Wall St. has identified the five stocks that were the biggest laggards. These are all within about 2% of their 52-week lows. Even as of last Friday, only four of the 30 Dow components were still showing gains year-to-date in 2014.

We show the catalysts driving the selling and also offer up the consensus price targets for each. Maybe these can recover to those targets, and maybe not. Whenever stocks do start to recover from broad market sell-offs, oftenit is the stocks that sold off the most that also recover the most.

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) shares were at $172.71, right on their 52-week low of $172.56. IBM was the only Dow stock to decline in 2013, falling 2.1%. The shares are off about 8% this year. Investors have been frustrated with slow growth rates. The consensus price target is $192.67, which would be a 12% gain from current levels

We think the next chapter of Internet growth will be driven by increasing broadband penetration and mobile 3G rollouts globally. Baron invests in the global Internet in two ways: 1) U.S. based Internet companies that have substantial international businesses, and 2) foreign based Internet companies. Several Baron portfolio holdings such as Google, Inc. and priceline.com, Inc. receive 50% or more of their revenues outside the U.S., and we think the faster growth of Internet access in emerging economies will be a substantial benefit to these companies. Other Baron portfolio companies such as LinkedIn Corp. (LNKD) and Blue Nile, Inc. (NILE) are also accelerating their efforts to penetrate international markets in 2012 and beyond.

Yet the path to 1,600 has been littered with poor-performing S&P components. Financial stocks are the obvious victims, with AIG (NYSE: AIG  ) and E*TRADE Financial (NASDAQ: ETFC  ) near the bottom of the list from a return standpoint. You'll also find several technology companies with losses of 75% or more over the past 13 years, demonstrating the failure of many once-ascendant young prospects to reach anything close to their full potential.

LONDON -- Christopher Bailey, the designer credited with restoring the cachet to fashion brand Burberry, is to become chief executive next year when long-standing boss Angela Ahrendts will move to Apple. The 157-year-old British fashion house, famous for its camel, red and black check pattern, said Tuesday that Ahrendts would step down by mid-2014 after which Bailey would combine his role as chief creative officer with chief executive. News the 42-year-old Yorkshireman would hold both positions sparked concern among some analysts that he might be taking on too much, and sent shares in the group down 6 percent in early trading, valuing the business at 6.6 billion pounds. "There will undoubtedly be relief that Mr. Bailey, the driving force behind the brand for the last 12 years, is staying," Morgan Stanley (MS) said in a note to clients. "But we anticipate some investor concern about combining the chief creative officer and CEO roles, which are both time consuming and require very different skill sets." Ahrendts, who has been Burberry (BURBY) boss for eight years, during which time its share price has soared about 250 percent, will take up a newly created position at Apple as a senior vice president with oversight of retail and online stores. She will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. Ahrendts will be looking to do better than the last chief executive of a British company who left London to join Apple (AAPL) -- John Browett who quit Dixons to lead the iPad and iPhone maker's global retail expansion in 2012. He left six months later. Bailey joined Burberry in 2001 and has held the major creative role for six years, helping to rebuild the group after it became a victim of its own success in the 1990s when its trademark pattern was embraced by the mass market, losing its appeal to its core wealthy clientele. Under Ahrendts and Bailey, the group has refocused on the luxury market, inc

AP/Darko VojinovicPro-Russian militias have seized local government buildings in Crimea, Ukraine; the unrest there is making investors around the world nervous. For Japan, the success or failure of its aggressive economic policies will determine whether its stock market success can continue. With dramatic devaluations in the yen, the government hopes to spur growth from its export sector, and shares of Sony (NYSE: SNE  ) and Toyota Motor (NYSE: TM  ) have responded with even greater gains than the overall market. Sony has nearly doubled in 2013 on the prospects for a better export environment, while Toyota has climbed about 50% even though U.S. automakers have been equally strong in meeting the challenge.
