Goldman Sachs analysts upgraded financial services company BB&T Corporation (BBT) on Tuesday because the stock offers an upside to earnings in a rising interest rate environment.

The analysts upgraded BBT from “Neutral” to “Buy” and see shares reaching $39, up from the previous target of $37. This new price target suggests a 13% upside to the stock’s Monday closing price of $34.48.

The analysts cited three main factors for the upgrade. For one, as mentioned above, BB&T offers an upside to earnings in a rising interest rate environment because it is leveraged to the long-end of the yield curve. Also, the analysts expect the company’s credit losses to continue to improve. Finally, the analysts expect BB&T’s loan growth to pick up.

Moreover, Goldman Sachs boosted BB&T’s fiscal 2013, 2014, and 2015 EPS estimates to $2.50, $3.22, and $3.55, respectively.

BB&T Corp shares were up 42 cents, or 1.22%, during pre-market trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 18.45% year-to-date.

AlamyCitizens Bank ranks the No. 1 financial institution among baby boomers. Each stage of life brings with it a unique set of challenges to overcome and benchmarks to hit -- and this is especially true when it comes to banking. Although financial institutions target millennials heavily, baby boomers (Americans born between 1946 and 1964) are still the most represented generation among today's banking customers. A December Gallup poll revealed that 89 percent of baby boomers have at least one checking, savings or money market account. With more than 75 million baby boomers in the United States, there's a greater demand for financial institutions that cater to the boomer lifestyle. 3 Things Baby Boomers Need Most From Banks The youngest baby boomers have reached seniority in the labor force, while the oldest members of this generation have entered retirement. Both ends of the spectrum have vastly different circumstances when it comes to income, but no matter their age, boomers have three main banking needs. 1. Customer Service. Customer service comes in many forms, whether from an in-person associate at a brick-and-mortar branch or an attendant at a small kiosk in a local grocery store. Boomers have grown up with institutions that rely on real-life, person-to-person transactions that allow them to talk through terms and conditions and have questions addressed. Physical bank branches are necessary in order to fulfill this service expectation. As more financial institutions have turned to online and mobile banking, some baby boomers who are slow to adapt to banking technology have been isolated as a result. 2. Retirement Planning. With the average life span in the U.S. expanding each year, and so many baby boomers on the road to retirement, the need for retirement planning resources becomes more and more pressing for many banking customers. "In my experience, the most stressful situation that baby boomers encounter is the fear of running out of money d

Although the market seems to be losing traction, and even losing ground now, the same can't be said of every single stock. A handful of stocks like China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc. (NASDAQ:CJJD), Vuzix Corp. (OTCBB:VUZI), and Adamis Pharmaceuticals Corp. (NASDAQ:ADMP) are forging ahead, doling out gains against the grain. Not that moving higher while other names are moving lower is a sure sign that ADMP, VUZI, and CJJD will remain in their uptrends indefinitely, but it sure doesn't hurt their odds. Here's a closer look at each one and why you'd want to add them to your watchlist.

Hot High Tech Stocks For 2015

This morning's news that the U.S. economy grew at just a 2.5% rate during the first quarter of 2013 came as an unwelcome reminder that economic growth has been hard to come by lately. With many economies around the world experiencing slowing growth or outright recessionary conditions, an increase in U.S. GDP that fell well short of what economists had expected to see confirmed that the U.S. hasn't been immune from the global malaise. Yet the Dow Jones Industrials (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) took the news in stride, gaining ground early in the session to gain 12 points as of 10:30 a.m. EDT.

To understand the market's minimal reaction, you have to consider several things. First, the GDP figures released today were merely the first estimate of the nation's economic growth and will be revised two more times before they're finalized. In the fourth quarter of 2012, initial estimates of a decline in GDP were later reversed higher. In addition, investors have actually tended to like relatively weak figures on the economic front because they believe weakness forces the Federal Reserve to maintain its accommodative monetary policies a while longer. And finally, given that the figures are backward-looking, more important forward indicators like the better-than-expected consumer sentiment data released this morning point toward the potential for future gains from the consumer sector.

Opening Print and S&P Levels to Watch

Global stocks, shares, bonds and currencies all surged, with algorithm and program trading driving the orders after yesterday's surprise decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve not to curtail its asset-buying program. As the Federal Reserve headlines hit the tape the trading pits of the CME Group's financial room exploded, hitting out buy stops in both the index and interest rate futures and options. Algorithmic and program trading takes up so much space in the futures markets that tools that used to work don't anymore. The program writers have figured out every tool we use, even the plus or minus 1000 -1300 ticks and the new indicators (if they work) don't last very long. If it's not tied to an algorithm you can forget it .That means that traders to constantly be looking for a new edge. Whether its learning "pivots and vol windows" or learning how to read the program levels in the S&P. As for today we have eight economic numbers , some Fed speak and the last day of the September rollover. With all the talk of the Fed most people have not paid much attention to this Friday's September Quadruple Witching. While it is no way the event that it used to be it still needs to be on your radar. Accordingly, the Ned Davis S&P cash study shows pre-expiration Thursday was up 16 and down 13 of the last 29 occasions; expiration Friday up 17 / down 12 of the last 29 occasion and next Monday (or the first trading day after the expiration ) up 9 / down 20 of the last 29. Our view: The S&P futures have rallied to 1725, a full 100 handles from their 1625 taper low. Additionally, the S&P futures have closed higher eight out of the last nine session, or up four in a row. Provided the economic reports don't surprise and knowing the S&P is the global leader it may be rest time for the ESZ. As firm as the S&P acts the futures have gone 85 handles in the last 11 days. After a big day up like yesterday and knowing the news is out we lean to a side ways to lower S&P today. Not saying the S&P can't or won't rally, but we think it will sell off a bit today. As always, use stops and keep an eye on the 10-handle rule. Don't forget to catch MrTopStep on The Closing Print video. We report directly from the SPX pits, wrapping up the day and positioning for trade tomorrow. To meet the goal last year, she did laps around the parking lot at lunch, and she took the dogs out for an extra walk at night. "Earning time off with pay is a great motivator to get me moving," says Takacs, the company's office coordinator. Excelas also makes charitable donations based on the employees' walking milestones.

The walking program is part of the company's wellness initiative, which also includes nutrition and stress-reduction programs. "The immediate objective is to improve the health of the staff," says Jean Bourgeois, the company's president and founder. "If our programs lead to a reduction in our health care costs over time, as we believe they will, that's the end game that benefits our company as a whole."

Hot Medical Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Clovis Oncology Inc (CLVS)

Clovis Oncology, Inc. (Clovis) incorporated on April 20, 2009, is a Development-stage Company. The Company is a Biopharmaceutical Company. The Company focuses on acquiring, developing and commercializing anti-cancer agents in the United States, Europe and additional international markets. The Company also focuses on the treatment of specific subsets of cancer populations. During the year ended December 31, 2010, the Company was in the process of developing three product candidates for which it holds global marketing rights: CO-101, a lipid-conjugated form of the anti-cancer drug gemcitabine; CO-1686, an oral epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutant-selective inhibitor and CO-338, a poly ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate)-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitor. Effective November 19, 2013, Clovis Oncology Inc acquired the entire share capital of Ethical Oncology Science SpA.

CO-101 - a Lipid-Conjugated Form of the Anti-Cancer Drug Gemcitabine

CO-101 is designed to treat patients with pancreatic cancer whose tumors express low amounts of a membrane transporter protein on the surface of the cancer cell known as hENT1 and are thus expected to be resistant to standard gemcitabine-based therapy. Based on the published results of multiple studies assessing the correlation of hENT1 expression to survival outcomes in pancreatic cancer patients treated with gemcitabine, the Company estimates that approximately 40% to 50% of pancreatic patients express low levels of hENT1, and thus derive little or no benefit from gemcitabine therapy. CO-101 is in an international, randomized and controlled 360-patient study for the first-line treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer. This open-label study compares CO-101 to gemcitabine as a first-line therapy in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Clovis is partnered with Ventana Medical Systems for the development and commercialization of a companion diagnostic for the assessment of hENT1 levels.

CO-1686-an Oral EGFR Mutant-Selective ! Inhibitor

CO-1686 is an orally available, small molecule covalent inhibitor of the cancer-causing mutant forms of EGFR for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). CO-1686 targets both the initial activating EGFR mutations as well as the primary resistance mutation, T790M, it treats both first- and second-line NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations. Such initiating activating mutations occur in approximately 10% to 15% of NSCLC cases in Caucasian patients and approximately 30% to 35% of NSCLC cases in East Asian patients. Following treatment with approved NSCLC therapies, Tarceva (erlotinib) or Iressa (gefitinib), both known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), approximately half of these patients develop the T790M mutation.

The Company focuses on the development of CO-1686 as both a second-line therapy for EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients who become resistant to TKIs due to the emergence of the T790M secondary mutation and as a first-line treatment for EGFR-mutated NSCLC. Clovis is partnered with Roche Molecular Systems for the development and commercialization of a companion diagnostic for identification of EGFR mutations.

CO-338-a PARP Inhibitor

CO-338 is a small molecule PARP inhibitor that the Company focuses to develop as both monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of selected cancer patients. CO-338 is in a Phase I clinical trial to determine the maximum tolerated dose of oral CO-338 that can be combined with intravenous, or IV, platinum chemotherapy in the treatment of solid tumors. This program is supplemented by two ongoing investigator-initiated trials, using the IV formulation of CO-338: a Phase I/II study in germ-line BRCA mutant breast and ovarian cancer and a Phase II study in the adjuvant treatment of germ-line BRCA mutant and triple-negative breast cancer. The Company also focuses on initiating a Phase I monotherapy study of the oral formulation, to determine an appropriate dose and schedule.!

The Company competes with Eli Lilly, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, APP Pharmaceuticals, AB Science SA, Amgen Inc., Astellas Pharma, BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Celgene Corporation, Immunomedics, Inc., Lorus Therapeutics, Threshold Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Boehringer Ingelheim, Pfizer, Sanofi-Aventis, Astra Zeneca, Abbott, Merck, Eisai, Cephalon and Biomarin.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By James E. Brumley]

Cancer drug investors who have been disappointed in recent results from shares of Clovis Oncology Inc. (NASDAQ:CLVS) or Nuvilex Inc. (OTCMKTS:NVLX) lately may want to take a look at ZIOPHARM Oncology Inc. (NASDAQ:ZIOP) as a replacement for either of those first two stocks. CLVS is down about 16% for the week on a less-than-flattering write-up in a Bloomberg publication, and NVLX has moved under a pair of key moving averages this week because, well, for no specific reason, but broadly because the recent wave of compelling news is already losing its potency, with most of that upside already being priced into shares (and then some) before it became official.

  • [By Jake L'Ecuyer]

Clovis Oncology (NASDAQ: CLVS) was also up, gaining 7.26 percent to $79.35 after the company announced 2014 objectives and financial outlook. The company projected to initiate three global registration studies for CO-1686.
