Alamy The Obama administration will promote health insurance coverage at shopping malls starting on Black Friday and continuing through the busiest shopping days of the holiday season, officials announced Wednesday. They said more than 462,000 people selected a private insurance plan in the first week of 2015 enrollment through the online marketplace HealthCare.gov. The government's enrollment push with Westfield Shopping Centers will involve setting up outreach tables at malls in Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, New York and Washington state. Westfield will post information about enrollment services on its website. Report Card on First Week The administration released what it called a snapshot of signups for the first week of the enrollment period, which started Nov. 15. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said 462,125 people chose a health plan in the 37 states using the federal website. Of those, 48 percent are new customers, including enrollees in Oregon and Nevada, which turned over their troubled insurance markets to the federal government. The figures don't include states running their own insurance markets. The numbers represent only the choice of a plan, and not whether consumers paid their first month's premium -- a requirement for coverage to start. "We're off to a solid start but we've got a lot of work every day between now and Feb. 15," the last day of the enrollment period, Burwell said in a conference call with reporters. About 1 million people phoned the enrollment site's help line, she said, and roughly an additional 100,000 callers chose to speak with a Spanish-speaking representative. Burwell said the administration is sticking with its previously announced goal of signing up 9.1 million consumers for coverage in 2015. Unlike last year, the website suffered no outages in the first week, officials said, and it's ready to handle 250,000 users at a time during anticipated surges around deadlines. Consumers must sign up by Dec. 15 for coverage to start on Jan. 1. Partnerships With Two Groups The figures announced Wednesday don't include dental plans, Burwell stressed. Last week, the administration acknowledged it had been over-reporting the number of enrollees by double-counting about 400,000 who had both medical and dental plans. Burwell said she has directed her staff to find out how the double-counting happened. Burwell promised a weekly update on enrollment along with more thorough monthly reports that will include what's happening in state-based markets. Along with the shopping mall campaign, HHS announced marketing partnerships with the National Community Pharmacists Association and the XO Group, a company that runs websites targeting brides, new mothers and homeowners. The pharmacists group will get enrollment information to its members and pharmacy customers, officials said. The XO Group will post blog content on its sites.

Despite the miss, President and CEO Chuck Jeannes confirmed the company's full-year guidance, focusing on positive results, favorable growth prospects, and controlled costs. Goldcorp has faced the same pressures that have plagued the two top gold producers, Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX ) and Newmont Mining (NYSE: NEM ) weakening gold prices and escalating costs. Difference Between Rich and Poor? 8 Teeth, Study Says
shutterstock The difference between the richest and poorest people in British society is eight teeth for those over than 65 years old, a new study concludes. The study, published Nov. 18 in the Journal of Dental Research, looked at the socioeconomic position and oral health for 6,000 people. British researchers found that the dental health of the poorest 20 percent of society was substantially worse than the richest by all measures studied, including having more tooth decay, gum disease, tooth gaps and less teeth overall. The study included more than 6,000 people aged 21 and over, from all income groups and regions of the United Kingdom, except Scotland. "It's probably not a big surprise that poorer people have worse dental health than the richest, but the surprise is just how big the differences can be and how it affects people," said lead author Jimmy Steele, head of the dental school at Newcastle University. "Eight teeth less on average is a huge amount and will have had a big impact for these people." Molars and Moolah Steele says although the younger generation has better oral health than their parents ever did, "the differences between rich and poor are very considerable, and young people are particularly aware when they do not have a healthy mouth." John Wildman, professor of health economics at Newcastle University Business School and the study's principal investigator, said that inequalities in oral health "have not received the attention that they deserve." "Oral health contributes hugely to everyday well being," Wildman said, "and addressing these inequalities may result in considerable improvements in quality of life for large numbers of individuals." Why Gold Keeps Tumbling
The gold spot price, after hitting a 2014 high of $1,383 in March, just tumbled to its lowest level in four months.
Gold fell last week to $1,243. That brings it close to where it started the year, at $1,221.
The gold spot price climbed for the first two and a half months of 2014, hitting a peak of $1,383 on March 14. After the high, the last half of March saw the gold spot price slip again. Prices started to steady in April, then shot up in May to $1,310 before falling to last week's low.
This week, spot gold has remained close to last week's low. It was quoted at $1,247.75 on Wednesday morning.
So after a nice gold price climb at 2014's start, what's weighing on the yellow metal now?
Money Morning Resource Specialist Peter Krauth gave us the story.
Gold Spot Price Getting Hit from Three FactorsKrauth is a 20-year veteran of the commodities markets. He's been uncovering the best profit plays in precious metals in his Real Asset Returns investment servicefor more than three years.
He sat down with us to explain what's affecting the gold spot price now.
"There are multiple forces acting to weigh on gold right now," Krauth said.
"First is a somewhat strengthening U.S. Dollar Index. Keep in mind this index's makeup is 57% euro. And right now, the euro is weakening because it's widely expected the European Central Bank will soon take measures to weaken its currency. That will, in turn, strengthen the U.S. dollar, which we are seeing as priced in currently. A stronger dollar weighs on gold, as it is priced in dollars."
The second factor weighing down gold spot price right now, said Krauth, is demand.
"The World Gold Council recently reported that Q1 2014 demand was stable at 1,074 tonnes versus 1,077 tonnes in Q1 2013. However, Bloomberg recently reported that April imports to China from Hong Kong were down to 65.4 tonnes versus 80.6 tonnes in March and 75.9 a year ago. It's thought that Chinese consumers have slowed their buying somewhat due to higher prices than last year. The country's overall gold demand was down 18% in Q1 over last year."
Best Paper Companies For 2015
"And third," continued Krauth, "we've got technical trading and sentiment. The $1,280 support level was breached to the downside, which encourages traders to short the metal while fostering negative sentiment. The next support level appears to be $1,240, and then around the $1,200 level."
Looking forward, there are events scheduled for this week that you can bet will shape the yellow metal...
Thursday will bring the monthly monetary policy meeting of the European Central Bank, which Krauth discussed above as a possible drag on the gold spot price.
And Friday brings the U.S. Labor Department employment report for May. The early forecast is for non-farm payrolls to have increased 215,000 in the report, according to Forbes. A strong U.S. economic report could lead to a stronger U.S. dollar - and the stronger the dollar, the more of a drag on the gold spot price.
While some traders may try to short the yellow metal as the gold spot price and gold futures slip, Krauth disagreed with that method.
"There seems to be too little downside and clarity of direction to short gold now. And increasing inflation expectations could help to underpin the price and provide new support."

After the bell on Tuesday, Oxford Industries (OXM) announced its second quarter earnings, posting a 14% increase in net sales from last year’s same quarter.
The Atlanta, GA-based apparel company announced second quarter consolidated net sales of $235 million, which were up from last year’s Q2 figure of $206.9 million. The company’s EPS, on an adjusted basis, came in at $1.01, a 55% increase from last year’s 65 cents.
Oxford Industries beat analysts’ Q2 EPS estimates of 98 cents, but missed the analyst revenue consensus of $243.5 million.
Looking forward to full-year 2013, Oxford Industries lowered its EPS guidance to a range of $2.90 to $3.05. This comes in below the analysts’ consensus of $3.12.
OXM shares were up 86 cents, or 1.33%, at the end of trading on Tuesday. YTD the stock is up more than 40%.

Not investors in Restoration Hardware (RH). Its shares have dropped 2% in after-hours trading after it reported a profit of 49 cents a share, above forecasts for 43 cents, but offered mixed guidance. Oxford Industries (OXM) is off 7.3% at $60 after it announced a profit of $1.01, ahead of 98 cents consensus forecasts, but lowered its 2013 guidance. Shares of SunEdison (SUNE) have dropped 5.4% to $7.90 after it announced a secondary offering.

One potential earnings short-squeeze candidate is men's apparel products player Oxford Industries (OXM), which is set to release numbers Tuesday after the market close. Wall Street analysts, on average, expect Oxford Industries to report revenue of $243.48 million on earnings of 98 cents per share.
If this company can manage to beat or meet Wall Street's earnings estimates this quarter, then it would mark the biggest quarterly gain in the last six quarter.
The current short interest as a percentage of the float for Oxford Industries is not able at 5.7%. That means that out of the 14.31 million shares in the tradable float, 817,000 shares are sold short by the bears. The bears have also been increasing their bets from the last reporting period by 3.8%, or by about 29,000 shares. If the bears are caught being too aggressive into a solid quarter, then shares of OXM could soar higher post-earnings as the bears rush to cover some of their bets.
From a technical perspective, OXM is currently trending above its 200-day moving average and just below its 50-day moving average, which is neutral trendwise. This stock recently sold off hard from its August high of $69.29 to its low of $61.10 with higher-than-average volume flows. Shares of OXM have now started to rebound a bit off that low of $61.10 with strong upside volume flows. That move is quickly pushing shares of OXM within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.
If you're bullish on OXM, then I would wait until after its report and look for long-biased trades if this stock manages to break out above its 50-day moving average at $65.77 a share to more resistance at $65.93 a share with high volume. Look for volume on that move that hits near or above its three-month average action of 103,286 shares. Plans for a ��igafactory��meant to produce millions of electric-car batteries ginned up excitement, but also raised eyebrows. The Wall Street Journal reported on skepticism in the space — including from heads at Volkswagen (VLKAY) and battery maker Highpower International (HPJ). Now, even planned investment partner Panasonic (PC) now sounds iffy on the project, with company Kazuhiro Tsuga saying “the investment risk is definitely larger.” Not good. There also was Tesla�� direct sales snafu. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie huffed and puffed and (on March 11) successfully blew down Tesla�� direct sales model, with the Motor Vehicle Commission approving a measure to enforce an already-existing ban on direct sales. On the flip side, Tesla has scored victories in New York and Ohio in the past month, and is making progress in Arizona (which has a little incentive on the board). Production of the Model X has been pushed further back, to 2015. Musk’s reasons — mostly having to do with focusing on bolstering Model S sales — are valid, but that doesn�� really soften the blow of a longer wait for the much-anticipated addition to Tesla�� line. To address the issue of battery fires in the Model S, TSLA added titanium shields and aluminum deflector plates to new vehicles and offered to install them for free in all its existing cars. Tesla�� margins are excellent, and there�� no hard number on the cost impact of the fix, but titanium ain�� cheap. This definitely isn�� going to add to Tesla�� bottom line. The Company conducts, for each block, a gravity and magnetic survey and acquire, process and interpret two dimensional (2D) seismic data. The gravity and magnetic survey on blocks L1B and L16 was completed in April 2013. The Company has the right to apply for up to two additional two-year exploration periods with specified additional minimum work obligations, including the acquisition of three dimensional (3D) seismic data and the drilling of one exploratory well on each block du! ring each such additional period. Its Canton, Ohio refinery is located approximately 60 miles southeast of Cleveland, Ohio. The Canton refinery processes sweet and sour crude oils into products such as gasoline, distillates, asphalt, propane, slurry and roofing flux. Its Texas City, Texas refinery is located on the Texas Gulf Coast approximately 30 miles south of Houston, Texas. As of December 31, 2011, the Company owned and operated 62 light product and 21 asphalt terminals. In addition, it distributes through approximately 52 third-party light product and 12 third-party asphalt terminals in its market area. During 2011, marine transportation operations included 15 towboats, as well as 167 owned and 14 leased barges that transport refined products on the Ohio, Mississippi and Illinois rivers and their tributaries, as well as the Intercoastal Waterway. The feedstock is received via the Mid-Valley and Marathon Pipelines and the refined products are transported via the Buckeye and Inland pipeline systems and by rail car to primary markets in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and southern Michigan. During 2012, crude oil feedstock throughput at the Lima Refinery averaged 150 thousand of barrels/day. Production of gasoline averaged 77 thousand of barrels/day, total distillates averaged 56 thousand of barrels/day and total butanes averaged 17 thousand of barrels/day. The BP-Husky Toledo Refinery, in which Husky holds a 50% interest, has an atmospheric crude throughput capacity of 160 thousand of barrels/day. Pr! oducts in! clude low sulphur gasoline, ultra low sulphur diesel, aviation fuels, propane, kerosene and asphalt. The refinery is located in one of the highest energy consumption regions in the United States. Husky owns and operates the Husky Lloydminster Upgrader, a heavy oil upgrading facility located in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. The Upgrader is designed to process blended heavy crude oil feedstock into high quality, low sulphur synthetic crude oil. Production at the Upgrader averaged 61 thousand of barrels/day of synthetic crude oil, 13 thousand of barrels/day of diluent and 4 thousand of barrels/day of low sulphur diesel in 2012.
Husky�� Canadian Refined Products operations include refining of light crude oil, manufacturing of fuel and fuel grade ethanol, manufacturing of asphalt products from heavy crude oil and acquisition by purchase and exchange of refined petroleum products. Husky�� retail distribution network includes the wholesale, commercial and retail marketing of refined petroleum products and provides a platform for non-fuel related convenience product businesses. Husky�� Pounder Emulsions division has a market share in Western Canada for road application emulsion products. Additional non-asphalt based road maintenance products are also marketed and distributed through Pounder Emulsions. On the other hand, oil consumption in the U.S. is actually expected to peak in 2019 at 19.8 million barrels per day and then drop to 18.9 million barrels of oil per day in 2040. However, global demand is projected to grow from 87 million barrels per day in 2010 to 115 barrels per day in 2040. If you take a look at the chart for Avalon Rare Metals, you'll notice that this stock recently pulled back after a monster run to the upside, with shares selling off from its high of 90 cents to its low of 71 cents per share. Shares of AVL are now starting to bounce off that low and trend back above its 50-day moving average at 74 cents per share. That move is quickly pushing this stock within range of triggering a major breakout trade above a key descending trendline and above some near-term overhead resistance levels.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in AVL if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at 82 to 90 cents per share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 447,084 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then AVL will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $1.14 to $1.22 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then put its next major overhead resistance levels at 41.34 to $1.64 within range for shares of AVL.
Traders can look to buy AVL off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at 71 cents to 65 cents per share. One can also buy AVL off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

The stock has fallen 0.7% today after the company reported a 16% rise in revenue to $14.39 billion. The problem is that revenue fell short of the $14.94 billion estimate, and the company said sequestration might have a $0.10 per-share impact on full-year earnings. I don't think this was a terrible report, especially when you consider that EPS of $1.39 actually beat estimates by $0.09, but investors are concerned about growth, and United Technologies didn't show nearly enough in the first quarter. �

Sterne Agee & Leach analysts Peter S. Arment and Josh Sullivan believe so, even if the stock�� recent performance suggests Wall Street isn�� all that sure.
In a research note published today after the maker of Otis elevators, Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines and Carrier air-conditioning systems offered investors muted financial targets 2014, the Sterne duo�predicted�respectable top-line growth and impressive cash generation that will ��ffectively put a valuation floor in despite all the moving parts.��/p>
The Wall Street Journal reports:
[United Technologies] sees full-year sales for the new year just above the expected level for 2013, as organic sales growth is expected to be slightly offset by net divestitures. The company has recently renewed its focus on aerospace and commercial businesses, in the process shedding units that don’t fall into those segments, such as a wind-turbine operation and a rocket-engine business. Recent results have also been bolstered by the acquisition of aircraft-component maker Goodrich Corp.� For the new year, United Technologies forecast profit between $6.55 to $6.85 a share on about $64 billion in sales. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected a per-share profit of $6.84 on $66.3 billion in sales.
Analysts at William Blair downgraded United Technologies to from Outperform to Market Perform.
But�Sterne�� Arment and Sullivan wrote that the company has a track record of under promising and over delivering. The analysts see United Technologies earning $6.80 a share in 2014 on revenue of $65.8 billion.

Since the initial drop, shares of United Tech have bounced back a bit. They’re down 0.8% at $106.93 at 12:03 p.m. That drop puts it out of step with other industrial stocks, which have been stronger today. General Electric (GE), for instance, has gained 1.1% to $24.16, Honeywell International (HON) has ticked up 0.2% to $83.19, Esterline (ESL) has risen 0.7% to $80.45 and Northrop Grumman (NOC) is up 0.6% at $95.87.
